Balakireva O. M. Editor in Chief Candidate of Sociological Sciences. Detailed information. Education: In 1978, she graduated from Kharkiv State University, majoring in “mathematician, teacher of mathematics”. In 1990 – Higher sociological courses (Moscow), sociology (with the right to teach). In 1991 – Institute of Youth (Moscow), postgraduate course in the specialty “Social structure, social institutions and way of life”, awarded the qualification “sociologist – researcher”. Main work activity: From 2005 to 2022, he was the head of the Department of Monitoring Research on Socio-Economic Transformations of the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. From 2005 to 2022, he was the chairman of the board of the NGO “Ukrainian Institute of Social Research named after Oleksandr Yaremenko”. From 1998 to 2022, he was the chairman of the board of the NGO “Center for Social Monitoring”. From 1997 to 2005 – deputy director of the State Institute of Family and Youth Problems (previously – Ukrainian Institute of Social Research and Ukrainian Research Institute of Youth Problems). In 1995–1997, he was the head of the Center for Sociological Research. In 1992–1995, he was the head of the sociological laboratory. In 1991–1992, he was a teacher of the Department of Sociology and Political Science of the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute, director of the Kharkiv Center for Youth Problems. In 1992–1999, he was a teacher at the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts. Balakireva O.M. was the head of the following international research projects in Ukraine: – head of the European project ESPAD (The European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs) in Ukraine – “European survey of school youth regarding the use of alcohol and other narcotic substances” (1994-2022); – head of the international WHO project in Ukraine – HBSC (Health Behavior School Children) – “Health and behavioral orientations of schoolchildren” (2001-2022); – head of international projects in Ukraine World Values Survey (WVS), European Values Study (EVS). Awards and achievements: In 1999, he was awarded the honorary title “Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine”. In 2011, he was awarded the highest award of the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine – the badge “For Scientific Achievements”. In 2016, he was awarded the medal named after B. Kistiakivskyi “For outstanding contribution to the development of sociology”. In 2018, she was awarded the international “Order of Queen Anna ‘Honor of the Fatherland’ on a silver star” for conscientious service to Ukraine and to the 1000th anniversary of the birth of Anna Yaroslavna – Princess of Kyiv, Queen of France. 1989–2022 – member of the Sociological Association of Ukraine. 2005–2022 – chief editor of the scientific journal “Ukrainian Society”. 2007–2022 – member of the board of SAU. 2017–2022 – Chairman of the Commission on Professional Ethics of the Sociologist of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences.
